the blackened canteen

03-24-2009

More than 16 million American men and women served in World War II. Of that number nearly 451,000 were killed. This week, book reviewer Linda Fasulo looks at the true account of five Americans and three Japanese whose lives became entwined when the war began. The Blackened Canteen’s author is Vero Beach resident Jerry Yellin, who was, himself, a former World War II fighter pilot serving in the Japanese theater.
