Welcome to Southwest Florida Public Radio & Television

Amy Bennett Williams has been writing about the people and places of Southwest Florida for well over a decade. Her commentaries often extol the beauty found in the commonplace objects and places – and are delivered with a touch of tenderness. Amy Bennett Williams started at the News-Press in 1988 as an obituary-writing clerk/reporter. She left to edit Gulfshore Life Magazine for five years, was named Florida Magazine Association’s Editor of the Year in 1997 and returned to the News-Press in 1998. She lives in Buckingham with her husband, Roger, and two sons, D.P and Nash.

The Trail

Two roadways span the wetlands and savannas that lie between Florida’s southwest and southeast coasts.  Travelers in a hurry usually opt for the fast lanes on Alligator Alley.  But News Press essayist Amy Bennett Williams likes the scenic route and today takes us on a trip across the Tamiami Trail.
