I just had the opportunity to watch your N Cap film. As a winter resident I can tell you that all that was said is true. There is no other place in Florida where I would consider living. Where else could you walk on the beach for hours and hardly see a soul. I'm closer to nature and peace here than anywhere else.
This is the finest island in the United States, other than Hawaii. We enjoy quiet, no cars, only golf carts on a great sand roadway. Good people live here and care for each other. Please don't tell anyone.
I have been working for the NORTH CAPTIVA ISLAND CLUB for the past 8 years in reservations. Originally from Germany I found paradise. The daily commute by boat from the mainland is the most enjoyable part of the entire day. Being in touch with nature from sunrise to sunset, sharing this paradise with the dolphins, white and brown pelicans, manatees, ospreys and numerous wading birds and of course our temporary visitors from all parts of the world.
My husband and I, who have lived on Upper Captiva for the past 12 years, just watched your clip about the island and enjoyed it very much. Like many others, we wear many hats: the Upper Captiva Community Chapel meets in our home and Bob is the pastor, we are volunteer sea turtle monitors, volunteers with the U.C. Fire Dept., participate in Book Club, Yoga, SING (a group of singers that also meets in our home), and U.C. Civic Association. And what a beautiful setting in which to do it all!
having lived on north cap for quite some time watching your clip made my day! I just recently moved back to the mainland in georgia and i must say i miss that way of life dearly!
I sailed to the area in 1980 from Rhode Island and called Captiva and Sanibel my home for over 9 years.
Then I sailed around the world and saw many beautiful places. When I returned to the states in 1997 I decided to make North Captiva my home. I would not want to be anywhere else in the world as none compare.
The island isn't for everyone but it is certainly for me.
I moved to the island when I was 28 after searching all throughout Florida, the Carolinas, and the Caribbean. It is hard to find a place more beautiful and peaceful than North Captiva. The island has just the right mix of beach life and resort amenities & activities, so you feel like you are on vacation every day. The community on North Captiva is just as special as the island itself... lot of wonderful people. If you would like to see more info about the island, visit www.northcaptiva.net.
HI! I M JUST TRYING TO FIND A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION THAT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. I AM PLANNING TO HAVE MY WEDDING AT THE STATE PARK AREA ON NORTH CAPTIVA ON APRIL 2, 2011 (THE DAY BEFORE EASTER), AND CAN NOT FIND ANYONE WHO KNOWS IF IT IS CROWDED ON THE ISLAND DURING THAT TIME. I AM A BUSY NURSE RESIDING IN LOUISVILLE KY AND WANT TO ENJOY MY WEDDING AS A PEACEFUL GETAWAY FROM LIFE. AFTER RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT IT SEEMS TO BE PERFECT, BUT WITH IT BEING SO SMALL I FEAR THAT IF IT IS PEAK SEASON, IT TOO WILL BE OVERWHELMED WITH PEOPLE. ALSO, TRYING TO SEE IF THE WATER IS COMFORTABLE FOR MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN TO SWIM IN DURING OUR STAY. IF ANYONE COULD HELP BY EMAILING ME I WOULD APPRECIATE IT GREATLY! ALSO, IF YOU KNOW THE NEAREST CAKE SHOP, FLOWER SHOP, PHOTOGRAPHERS TO NORTH CAP AND ANY CHEAPER RENTAL PROPERTIES THAN I HAVE FOUND PLEASE SEND DETAILS. THANKS SO MUCH! HEATHER
Hi Heather - if no one has notified you as of yet regarding North Captiva and island details, please write to me. I live on North Cap and would be happy to let you know about some of the local businesses that can help you with wedding plans as my daughter was married out there Jan 2010!! It was a beautiful 3 day weekend event! jhendrsn@comcast.net

How do you keep your sanity on a 5-mile-long sandbar a good half-hour boat ride to an island with a bridge that takes you to mainland another half-hour away? It takes a special breed. North Captiva, known also as Upper Captiva or simply North Cap, only recently broke away to become its own island, cleaved from Captiva Island by a hurricane in 1921. Today’s islanders have that same spirit of independence. Sanity? That’s a different issue entirely.
