Introduction to Genealogy
Genealogy is a fascinating journey into your family’s origins, the places and times in which they lived, and the part that they played in history. Whether you are just getting started or have been involved in family history research for some time, this session will take you through many types of evidence and the techniques for getting yourself organized to evaluate the materials you discover.
All About Ships’ Passenger Lists
The U.S. federal government required passenger manifests beginning in 1820 for all ships bringing passengers to a U.S. state or territorial port. This session discusses the ships' passenger manifests, and how they expanded in content from 1820 until the closing of the Ellis Island immigrant processing center in 1954. Learn what you can find at the various times and how these manifests can extend your research.
Front Page News (and Beyond): Finding Archived Newspapers
The stories of our ancestors' lives, from birth to death and everything in between, can be found in the pages of archived newspapers. Learn whether those stories are already somewhere online or on microform in a library, and discover some of the fascinating types of information you may find.
