It details his impressive international career as a dancer, director, choreographer, designer and his work with the likes of Rudolf Nureyev.  Also, The Gulf Coast Symphony presents the East coast premiere of Chris Brubeck’s symphonic suite, Quiet Heroes based on the book “Flags of our Fathers” in honor of the 65th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. New College's 17th Medieval & Renaissance Conference

What was life really like during the Medieval and Renaissance periods of Europe? Do you know what the custom outfit to wear was when being beheaded? Why there were so many paintings of naked Eves from the Garden of Eden? New College is hosting its 17th conference on Medieval and Renaissance life. We’ll talk with two professors on the stranger aspects of the Middle Ages. Hope for Haiti Committee

There’s a group of Floridians who want to do their part in Haiti. But, beyond donating money and goods, this group wants to rebuild. A group of 25 residents from the Boca Grande community on Gasparilla Island has raised 100-thousand dollars to build a village in Haiti. They're working with the group Food for the Poor.  We talk with two of the members about their project and why Haiti cannot be forgotten. It’s also Tuesday’s from Tallahassee and another look at this year’s legislative session with Democratic State Senator Dave Aronberg.

We’re joined by author and social commentator Clay Jenkinson who will adopt the persona of John Steinbeck Wednesday at Big Arts on Sanibel.  Jenkinson has performed before U-S Presidents and Supreme Court Justices…he was even on the Colbert Report.  We’ll also meet two area women who adopt a spectrum of historical personas…including Eleanor Roosevelt, Amelia Earhart and Marjory Stoneman Douglas.

The Friends of the Library of Collier County bring a taste of mystery to this month’s Nick Linn Lecture series. Former newspaper columnist, magazine editor and author of the Zack Chasteen mystery series Bob Morris shares the podium with former U-S Drug Agent turned crime writer James O Born. We’ll discuss why Florida and the Caribbean provide great locales and characters for mystery writers.  We’ll also look into the tricks of writing compelling mystery and crime fiction.

Master gardener programs – offered thru the University of Florida’s IFAS extension offices – provide intensive education to people who want to grow their own food in their own backyards.  And once they’re certified, these master gardeners then take their knowledge back to their communities.  We’ll learn more about the master gardener program – and about a community garden at Lakes Park in Fort Myers.

The Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab is bringing some of the world’s most renowned filmmakers to Ringing College in Sarasota to work collaboratively with Ringling students on learning the process of motion picture and television development by working on actual projects.  The program exposes filmmaking students to top writers, directors, and producers. Also Ringling’s new Cinema Lounge at the Westfield Sarasota Square Shopping Center shows 20 of the best Ringling senior animation thesis films for free at the mall. Students transformed a vacant storefront and now they get to show off their work.

Driving and Texting

The Florida Legislature will consider a number of bills during its upcoming session that deal with texting while driving.  We'll hear from State Senator Frederica Wilson and State Representative Doug Holder about some of those bills.  We’re also joined by Jay Anderson from the Stay Alive, Just Drive campaign.  And we’ll hear from Zachary Rivera, the Florida Junior Civitan Lt Governor who’s part of the “Be a No Phone Driver” campaign – it’s an effort to get people to stay off their phones or mobile devices entirely while behind the wheel.  You can watch the Oprah Winfrey segment on texting and driving.  Or, watch the PSA that has millions around the world talking.

Senior Issues Part 2

What options are there for seniors who want to stay at home instead of entering a nursing home?  In our second program on Senior Issues we’ll talk with what are called “aging in place” specialists about how to retrofit a home, in a stylish way, to make it possible for many to live out their lives in a familiar environment.  We're joined by the founder of GreatGrabz to learn how to make your home safer.  We'll also hear from folks at Senior Bridge to learn more about geriatric care and aging in place.  The Renaissance Academy is offering a course on the issue.  Also on the show we’ll ask the question – when is the right time to take away a person’s driving privileges?  We’ll look at a statewide program that can help assess a senior’s ability to drive as well as find other options for mobility.

A south Fort Myers nursing home is under investigation for possible elder abuse.  Every year the Agency for Health Care Administration investigates hundreds of similar complaints.  In part one of our series on senior issues, we take a closer look at nursing homes and long term care facilities.  Also joining our panel is the Florida Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.  We'll discuss what people should be asking about these sorts of facilities.  We're also joined by the AARP to find more answers for seniors across the state.  We’ll try to debunk any myths as well.  And we want to hear from you…what are your personal experiences with nursing homes?

We're talking with Debi Brooks, co-founder of the Michael J Fox Parkinson's Research Foundation.  She's going to be one of 40 speakers at the Imagine Solutions conference in Naples next week.  Also, we talk with Dr. Richard Harris who once led the Ku Klux Klan in Indiana.  Now he spends his life lecturing and promoting peace as a pastor and civil rights activist.  What led him down the path of bigotry and hate - and what changed his mind and his heart?  Dr. Harris is the author of the book “One Nation Under Curse.”  Also on the show – the PBS show Nature is featuring the growing problem of Pythons in the Everglades.  We’ll talk with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission about what's being done to halt the invasion.

Acclaimed Irish tenor Anthony Kearns makes his American Operatic debut in the role of Romeo/Tony.  Also on the show – Gulfshore Playhouse presents Beau Jest.  We’re joined by playwright James Sherman and Playhouse founder Kristen Coury.
