Members of the Naples Philharmonic, the Florida Orchestra, the Jacksonville Symphony and guest artists Jeff Queen – from the Broadway show BLAST and Danny Seraphine – who performed with Chicago play only percussion in this upcoming concert in Naples. We’re joined by Queen, Seraphine and the Philharmonic’s principal timpanist John Evans for an exploration of percussion from bass drum to marimba, piano to xylophone.

In Collier County, new flood-plain maps proposed by FEMA will be the first changes in flood zone designation for the region in more than a decade. We’ll take a look at how homeowners could be affected. Plus, last week’s primary election was the first leg of what could be an historic election season for Florida, yet voter turnout remained low. We’ll talk with the League of Women Voters of Florida President Deirdre Macnab about the election and voter participation.

There’s been a resurgence of Dengue Fever in Florida. The mosquito-transmitted disease hasn’t been seen in the Sunshine State since the 1930s. We’re joined by two FGCU researchers who are working on a vaccine. And the City of Cape Coral is turning 40. It’s grown rapidly over the decades, and is now the most populous city between Tampa and Miami. We’re joined by a couple of longtime residents to talk about its past…and its future.

Florida’s primary election is Tuesday the 24th. We’ll meet the Democrats who hope to be on the November ballot for Florida’s 13th congressional district…which includes all of Sarasota, DeSoto & Hardee Counties…most of Manatee County and a bit of Charlotte County. And the South Florida Water Management District’s Governing Board recently approved a scaled back plan to buy land from U-S Sugar for Everglades Restoration. We’ll talk to the board’s chairman and the CEO of the Everglades Foundation to learn more.

Musicologist and historian Dick Spottswood of Naples is out with a new book about 103-year-old Wade Mainer. Mainer has a history in hillbilly music on his banjo that reaches back to 1935, when he made his first records for RCA in Atlanta. Mainer is believed to be the longest living country music entertainer ever.
Also, local filmmaker Anthony Paull’s short film “The Once and Future Me” is featured at the 2010 LGBT Film Fest in Sarasota.

In November, Florida voters will decide whether or not to approve a revision of class size requirements for public schools. Proponents of Amendment 8 say it gives schools flexibility in implementing rules about smaller class sizes, while opponents argue the measure will allow the state to cut funding for public schools. And with the primary election just six days away, we’ll be talking with the Democratic candidates vying for the District 16 U.S. Congressional seat which includes Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda and Labelle.

The historically male dominated comic book world is taken over by women at the Howl Gallery in Fort Myers this week. The all-female comic art collaborative known as the SUGAR NINJAS is a diverse group of women artists and storytellers. Anthologies of their work are being showcased. We’ll meet a couple of Floridian sugar ninjas plus the former art professor who published their works and the gallery owner who put it all together.
