With the Wild Things
"With the Wild Things" airs weekdays at 7:19 A.M. on WGCU 90.1 FM, Fort Myers/Naples/Marco
"With the Wild Things" is a daily radio program produced by the
Whitaker Center in the College of Arts & Sciences at Florida Gulf
Coast University, and is funded by the Environmental Education Grant
Program of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The radio segments focus on:
-factors that contribute to Florida's rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems
-how human population growth and development have reduced and
fragmented natural habitats reducing biodiversity and endangering many
species of plants and animals
-how the loss of biodiversity impacts listeners
-efforts being made to reduce negative human impacts to natural ecosystems
-ways to preserve Florida's biodiversity for present and future generations
Programs feature various Florida ecosystems, with a special emphases on:
-coastal ecosystems
-public lands such as parks, wildlife management areas, etc.
-private agricultural lands, such as cattle ranches, hunting
plantations, and silvicultural operations and the practices they employ
to manage and protect wildlife and plants -- especially endangered
species.
In general a single topic is presented each week, with a different aspect of the topic presented each day.
