Music and donuts: Founder of Bennett’s Fresh Roast sits down with Three Song Stories

Known for its delectable handmade-from-scratch donuts, Bennett’s Fresh Roast has become one of the most popular businesses to open in Lee County due to its high quality and customer service.

With plenty of rave reviews and a 4.5 out of 5 rating on Trip Advisor, Bennett’s has become somewhat of an institution here in Fort Myers (I highly recommend the Maple Bacon donuts…I even had them at my wedding).

Opened by Bob Grissinger (along with Frankie Albano and Anne & Roger Munro), Bennett’s Fresh Roast has become one of the most successful coffee and donut places in town. But what about the man that started it all?

Before Bennett’s opened its doors, Grissinger was best known as Wink FM morning radio personality C. David Bennett of Bennett & Birch. For more than 14 years, Bennett and Gina Birch (the very same Gina Birch from our Grape Minds podcast) were two of Southwest Florida’s favorite radio personalities. They ruled the airwaves each weekday morning on Wink FM (for more Bennett & Birch, click here).

As of January 2021, Grissinger retired and “Donut Master” Ian Black now runs Bennett’s Fresh Roast, retaining the long-standing traditions of high quality and customer-focused service. Listen as the original founder of Fort Myers’ favorite donut shop sits down with Three Song Stories and tells his biography through music.
