Why I give… and why I’m asking you to give as well

Three years ago, shortly after I survived my first Florida hurricane, my life changed.  I found my dream employer in a career that I love. The WGCU staff, volunteers, and our members are my family.  I knew when I first walked in the door for my interview, that I found a new home.  You know the same feeling, when you tune in to hear John Davis say “Good morning,” or turn on the television and Lidia Bastianich invites you into her home.  WGCU Public Media is a part of your life.  You can’t imagine a moment without it, you plan your day around it, and you value the thought-provoking programming.

I grew up a PBS child – watching British shows with my grandmother after school and Lawrence Welk after dinner.  During my interview, I don’t think they believed me when I said I still tune in to see Lawrence Welk from time to time.  I spent a great deal of my life watching PBS programming, but I never donated.  I was embarrassed when I started my job fundraising for WGCU.  I never truly understood what a pledge drive was, I just enjoyed watching the Motown shows with my grandmother (and now with my husband).  So, I became a sustaining member.  I give what I can every month, and support every pledge drive with an additional gift.

The past two months have been filled with uncertainty, but one thing you can count on is WGCU Public Media.  We were here for you yesterday, we will be here for you today, and we will continue to serve the SWFL community for years to come.

If your financial situation allows for it, please consider making a donation today.  I invite you to join me as a member at a level that is comfortable for you.  If you are unsure of how you can help, but would like to share how WGCU has improved your life, please call me at (239)590-2514.  I would love the opportunity to hear your story over a virtual cup of coffee or tea!

Stay safe, healthy, and fabulous,
