After a little more than a decade as local host of NPR’s Morning Edition, WGCU Assistant News Director John Davis is switching roles to general assignment reporter.
“Getting to be the local host of NPR’s Morning Edition for Southwest Florida audiences has been an exciting opportunity and truly an honor,” said Davis. “However, I’m looking forward to taking a more active role in cross-platform news and digging into more investigative journalism, which is where I first found my passion for news reporting more than 20 years ago. I also look forward to having more time to work with the FGCU journalism students now reporting as interns and as the inaugural class of our Democracy Watch fellowship program.
“On a personal note, I also look forward to setting my alarm clock for a little later in the morning.”
New Morning Edition host for WGCU is Sandra Viktorova, a Suncoast Emmy Award-winner who may sound familiar to local listeners due to her previous role at WFTX Fox 4. She has worked in Miami, Orlando, Fort Myers, Denver, and Laredo, Texas, with CBS and NBC affiliates and the Univision Network.
Viktorova earned a degree in broadcast journalism from Florida International University and recently moved from Miami to Charlotte County.
